Obituary for Barbara Ann Wornall

Barbara Ann Bell Wornall, loving friend to all, passed away at her home surrounded by her daughter Leslie and Other Daughter Karen, on February 10, 2023. She was 82. Daughter of E. Raymond and Rosa Lena Kauffman Bell, she was born in Lexington, Kentucky on August 22, 1940. Her father worked for the OPA until the end of WWII when the family moved from Lexington to their farm in Little Harrison, Bracken County. Her family moved to Cynthiana, KY in the summer of 1946 where Barbara lived until her death. She attended St. Edward Catholic School through the 8th grade, and graduated from Cynthiana High School in 1958. A graduate of Fugazzi Business School, she began her work life with Pressman Department Store where she was in charge of ordering and maintaining shoe inventory. She worked at Ladish Co. as secretary to the Valve Sales Manager until 1970 when she joined 3M in the Purchasing Department where she retired at 55 years of age. She always claimed retirement was the best job she had ever had! She and her daughter Leslie traveled around the US and took trips touring Europe. She was an avid Bridge player, fan of UK sports, and pro tennis. She enjoyed her lifelong friends including the groups she called the “58’ers” and the “3M’ers” who still gather to have meals with lots of stories and laughs. She was a charter member of the Cynthiana High School Board of Trustees, she served on numerous committees working to preserve the history of CHS and its alumni. At the age of 70 she began taking art classes and enjoyed painting landscapes and sometimes created her own Christmas cards.
Besides her parents, she mourned the passing of her brother Raymond Kauffman Bell (Buddy). She is survived by daughter Leslie (Steve), and grandchildren Cynthia (Tito) and Joan, and great-granddaughter Mila Mae who always brought smiles to her heart. She is also survived by sister-in-law Lanna, niece Holly (Ben) their daughter Katie Ann, and a great great-nephew, Rylee, nephew Joe (Michelle) and their children Quinn and Chloe, and her “Other Daughter” Karen and her family. She had many cousins and friends who live in Kentucky, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Washington state, Oregon, Alabama and Florida. Barbara also had many pets through the years. She enjoyed the antics of her furry friends. Some even said she should have written a book. She and her family would like to thank her many friends for their thoughts, prayers and well wishes as well as the delicious food they brought in. These were so appreciated and what would she have done without the aide of her Care Navigators “Angels”, Team Red.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, February 15, 2023 at 11:00am with Mass following at 12:00 P.M. at St. Edward Catholic Church, where she had been a lifelong member, a participant in the Altar Society and Choir, as well as serving on the Bereavement and Cemetery committees. Burial will be at St. Edward Catholic Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Edward School, 107 N Walnut St, Cynthiana KY 41031, where she volunteered after her retirement.
