Obituary for Clarence "Deb" Thomas

CLARENCE E. "DEB" THOMAS, age 85, died April 8, 2013 at the Bourbon Community Hospital in Paris. Born in Robertson County, January 23, 1928 to the late Howard and Mabel Chamberlain Thomas, he was a Mt. Olivet Baptist Church Deacon, retired engineer associate from Columbia Gas Transmission and served for the United States Army as a Staff Sergeant in the 25th Division, Company C, 89th Tank Battalion during the Korean War from 1952 until 1953. He was a founding member and past president of the Mt. Olivet Lion's Club. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, E.C. Thomas.

He is survived by his wife, Opal Dean Thaxton Thomas; two sons, Kevin (Gayle) Thomas, Lexington and Duane (Glenda) Thomas, Georgetown; a daughter, Melanie (Calvin) Denton, Carlisle; a brother, James (Levaughn) Thomas; five grandchildren, Kari (Matt) Robinson, Kristie Gifford, Katie (Mike) Zornes, Justin Thomas and Keely Thomas; two great grandchildren, Victoria Robinson and Tyler Robinson and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held 1:00 P.M. Saturday at the Mt. Olivet Baptist Church by Rev. Kevin Thomas, Rev. Jonathan Lewis, Bro. Doug Wright and Bro. Jeremy McCloud. Visitation will be from 5:00 until 9:00 P.M. Friday and 11:00 A.M. Saturday at the church. There will be additional parking at Deming School. Burial will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery with military honors. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Mt. Olivet Baptist Church, P.O. Box 184, Mt. Olivet, Kentucky 41064.

Active pallbearers will be James Myron Thomas, Billy H. Thomas, Randy Thomas, Mark Thomas, Matt Robinson, Mike Zornes, Brian Cluxton and Aaron Jones. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Mt. Olivet Baptist Church, 25th Division, Company C, 89th Tank Battalion and employess of Columbia Gas Transmission.
