Obituary for Dolores Darr Sandy (Darr)

Dolores Darr Sandy of Cynthiana, Kentucky was born on August 3, 1919, to the late Talmadge Frank and Nellie Grace Palmer Darr.
Born in Bond Hill, Ohio, Mrs. Sandy began working at a young age, caring for children and doing housekeeping in various homes. Later she began working at the Frigidaire Plant in Dayton, Ohio. It was in the workplace that she met her husband, Austin Levi Sandy. It is told that Mr. Sandy, a safety engineer, and Mrs. Sandy informally met at the water cooler in the plant. This meeting would begin their dating which led just a few months later to their marriage on July 27, 1944. The Sandy’s continued working together at Frigidaire until their retirement. They spent a short time in Lakeland, Florida, where they managed a mobile home park. Their desire to move back to Kentucky brought them to the home place of Mr. Sandy’s grandfather, Levi Sandy. The farm was named Sunset Acres and was located on the road to Sunrise, Kentucky, Mr. Sandy’s birthplace. The Sandy’s enjoyed the farm and remained there until Austin’s death on August 5, 1993.
Mrs. Sandy was also predeceased by her stepfather, Daniel Roads; a brother, Gilbert Darr, a sister, Charlotte Darr Brown; a brother-in-law, Raymond “Brownie” Brown and a niece, Timi Brown. She is survived by her beloved sons, Gary Sandy, Cynthiana and Keith Sandy, Prescott, Arizona; a nephew, Danny (Sandy) Mongold and several nieces and nephews of the Sandy family.
Mrs. Sandy, a strong, independent, fun-loving lady led a full life for her 103 years. She was blessed with good health, a very sharp wit and a keen mind. She adored her sons, treasured her family and her husband’s family. She loved going to yard sales, visiting casinos, watching the REDS, the UK Wildcats and her beloved TV programs, The Lawrence Welk Show, Shark Tank and Judge Judy! She enjoyed traveling all over the country to see her son, Gary perform in many musicals-her favorite entertainment, and she was fortunate to meet many movie stars who cherished their friendship with her. Her sparkling personality endeared her to many friends far and near.
