Obituary for Douglas Allen McCarty

Douglas Allen McCarty, 71, passed away September 30, 2022, at Harrison Memorial Hospital. He was born May 12, 1951, to the late Charles Clinton and Virgie Stanfield McCarty. Besides his parents he was preceded in death by a brother, William “Fuzzy” McCarty; and a sister, Ethel Kay Yazell.
Doug was a member of D. E. S., Deputy Director of Emergency Management, founder of Search and Rescue in Harrison County, a member of Harrison County React, and a Safety Officer for Harrison County Volunteer Fire Department. He was a member of Indian Creek Christian Church, as well as an avid hunter, fisherman and camper.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Phyllis Workman McCarty; a son, James (Teresia Poe) McCarty; a daughter, Melissa Ann McCarty, one brother, Marvin Clinton McCarty; one sister, Rose (Tommy) Vice; two grandsons, Matthew Setters, Justin Turner; one great grandson, Braxtyn Hayze Turner; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M., Wednesday, October 5th, 2022, at Ware Funeral Home, with Bros. CJ Epperson and Lead Minister of Indian Creek Church, Adam Wilson. Burial will follow at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery. Visitation will be on Tuesday, October 4th, 2022, also at Ware Funeral Home, beginning at 5:00 P.M.
Active pallbearers will be the members of the Harrison County Volunteer Fire Department. Honorary pallbearer will be Tom Pierce.
