Obituary for Howard Jackson Carr Jr.

Howard “Howie” Jackson Carr passed away on Monday June 28th, after a long and courageous battle with cancer surrounded by family and friends. He was a kind and adventurous man who found the positive in everyone around him. If you were a friend, you were family. He had a great smile and an even better laugh that filled the room. His humor, wit and love of family will be greatly missed by many.
Howie was born in Hardwick, Vermont to Howard Jackson Carr (deceased) and Ruth (Vogan) Carr (deceased). He was the fourth of six blended children. He finished school and joined the Navy as a submarine chef. His 20 years of Naval service earned him long lasting friendships, travel around the world, and his wife of 38 years, Traci L. (Darter) Carr. He and his wife were wed on July 31, 1982. After retiring from the Navy he, his wife and many fur babies moved across the country and settled in Kentucky with Traci and her parents, Philip and Ruth Darter. He also completed 21 years as an employee at 3M.
Howie had a passion and love for Harley Davidson Motorcycles. He would often show up for surprise visits back home to Vermont on one of his many bikes. Howie’s love for his wife, family and friends showed in everything he did. He was an avid animal lover and he and Traci saved the lives of many rescue animals in their time together. His smile could be seen the largest when sitting back at a family and friends gathering or surrounded by a pile of cats and dogs in their family home.
Howie is survived by his wife Traci, brothers Jerry Vogan and Leonard Carr and wife Denise Carr, sisters Margaret Burbank and Wendy Carr, two brother in-laws, Jeff Darter and W.T (Tina) Housley, as well as multiple nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, as well as multiple life-long friends across many states and the country. He is predeceased by his before mentioned parents and in laws, brother Sam Carr and James Carr.
A Memorial Service will be held Friday, July 2 at 6:00 PM at Journey Church with visitation following the initial service until 9:00 PM at Journey Church.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made in his honor to Journey Church or The American Cancer Society.
