Obituary for Lannis Marion McConnell
Lannis Marion McConnell, age 83, Mt. Olivet, died Wednesday, February 25, 2009 at his residence. Born in Robertson County, March 15, 1925 to the late Earl and Nellie Bradley McConnell, he was a farmer, a member of the Kentontown Christian Church and a World War II Navy veteran having served from 1943 until 1946. During his service in the Navy, he was aboard the USS LST 468 Landing Ship Tank. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Lila Jean Suit McConnell and two brothers, Emmitt Earl McConnell, Sr. and Maurice Burns.
He is survived by a son, Lannis Marion "Lanny" McConnell, Jr., Robertson County; a daughter, Marguerite McConnell (David) Skidmore, Lewis County; two brothers, Ivan H. McConnell, Robertson County and Edgar Lyle McConnell, Albany, Georgia; a sister, Edith McConnell Manley, Maysville; five grandchildren, Andrea Leigh Johnson (Christopher) Shields, Jason Aaron Johnson, Sarah Jean McConnell (David) Mashburn, Joseph DeSha McConnell and Shannon Kay McConnell and three great grandchildren, Caleb Shields, Kaitlyn Shields and Ava R. Mashburn and a special friend and cousin, Dewey L. Miller.
Pallbearers will be Tony McConnell, Michael McConnell, Jason Johnson, Joseph McConnell, Tom Mitchell, Tyler McConnell, David Mashburn, Wayman Tilton and honorary pallbearers Dewey L. Miller, Dale Kinney and the officers of the Kentontown Christian Church.
Funeral services will be conducted 1:00 P.M. Saturday at Kentontown Christian Church by Bro. Clifford Neat and Bro. Josh Conley. Visitation will be from 6:00 until 9:00 P.M. Friday at the church. Burial will be in Kentontown Cemetery with military rites performed by the Lewis County VFW Post #5438.
