Obituary for Lois Beatrice Gravette (Hillard)

Lois Beatrice Hillard Gravette, 93, of Lexington, passed away on February 25, 2024, in Cynthiana.
Lois was born on April 22, 1930, in Laurel County, to Sarilda Mae Browning and Samuel Gilbert. She lived most of her life in Lexington where she worked as a waitress and owned her own grocery store. Lois loved crafting, sewing, crocheting, gardening and collecting a variety of items.
Lois is survived by daughters Angela Gravette and Linda Gravette (Reggie) Gentry; stepdaughter, Janice Gravette (Wayne) Massengale; one brother, Green A. Hillard, Jr.; one sister, Donna Hillard Florence; nine grandchildren, Keegan and Truann Gravette, Heather Pickard Cardoso, James “Jamie” Romans, Anthony “Tony” Romans, Niles Romans, Jonathan Romans, Amber Romans; six step-grandchildren, Tadd Gravette, Julie Challender, Guy Toby Gravette, David Short, Dana (Greg) Williamson and Kellie Massengale. Lois has a total of eighteen great-grandchildren and six great great-grandchildren.
Lois was predeceased by both parents and her stepfather, Green A. Hillard Sr.; her husband, Finley Glass Gravette and her partner, Reynolds “Red” Howard Jr.; her children, James “Jimmie” Gravette, June Romans Hunt, Samuel Romans Jr.; stepchildren, Steve and Glenn Gravette; four brothers, Johnnie, Thomas “Tommie”, Lelton and Russell Gene Hillard; five sisters, Ruth Ann Kiskaden, Judy Prather, Phyllis Griffith, Vickie Marshall and Rita Jo Hillard.
Celebration of Life will be Monday, March 4, 2024, at Ware Funeral Home in Cynthiana from 5:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. Burial will be in Hillcrest Memorial Park, 2089 Versailles Rd, Lexington, KY 40504 on Tuesday, March 5, 2024, at 1:00 P.M. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Flora Shropshire Animal Shelter, 1751 New Lair Rd, Cynthiana, KY 41031 as Lois loved animals.
