Obituary for Mary Louise Pumpelly Hughes

MARY LOUISE PUMPELLY HUGHES, age 99, Sardis Road, Mt. Olivet, died Thursday, November 10, 2011, at Grand Haven Nursing Home in Cynthiana. Born in Mason County, October 24, 1912, to the late Amos and Lena Galbraith Pumpelly, she was a 1930 graduate of Sardis High School, and attended Good Samaritan School of Nursing in Lexington. She was a homemaker and a member of Sardis United Methodist Church. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, William B. Hughes; a brother, Matison Pumpelly; two sisters, Agnes Cracraft and Thelma Buckler, and a grandson, Leslie Hughes.

She is survived by two sons, William C. (Shirley) Hughes and Larry (Sandy) Hughes, both of Mt. Olivet; a daughter, Mary Lou (Kevin) Clark, Sardis; two brothers, Allan (Virginia) Pumpelly, Dover and J. K. Pumpelly, Maysville; six grandchildren; Billy (Rena) Hughes, Sue Hughes, Wayne (Mary) Hughes, Laura (Jeff) Houchens, Lorne (Jenny) Hughes and Lyn (Jason) England; eight great grandchildren, Karla (Brian) Flynn, Casey (Justin) Doyle, Ashley Hughes, Taylor Houchens, Peyton Houchens, Laurel Hughes, Jillian Hughes, Alexis England, and Avery England, and a great great-grandson, Garrett Flynn.

Active pallbearers will be Billy Hughes, Wayne Hughes, Lorne Hughes, Jeff Houchens, Jason England, and Kevin Clark. Honorary pallbearers will be W.T. Doyle, John Gifford, and Jimmy Stitt.

Funeral services will be conducted 3:00 P.M. Sunday at the Robertson County Funeral Home under the direction of Dr. Mike Rice with visitation at 1:00 P.M. Burial will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Sardis United Methodist Church.
