Obituary for Phyllis Ann Burns (Orme)

Phyllis Ann Orme Burns, 84, of Mount Olivet, died Monday, November 27, 2023 at Hospice Care Center in Maysville, KY. She was born in Robertson County on April 5, 1939, to the late John Swinford Orme and Alta Hope Jones (Gene) Williams. She was raised from a small child by her foster parents, Willis H. And Grace M. White. She was a wonderful and loving wife, mother, grandmother, farmer and housewife. She was a member of Mount Olivet First United Methodist Church. She served on Mount Olivet City Council for nineteen years, as well as helping with the Robertson County Veterans Day meal for many years and serving as a foster grandparent at Robertson County Elementary. She was awarded the Kentucky Colonel in 2022 by Governor Beshear. Mrs. Burns is best remembered by her love of her family and God, and how she exemplified kindness, giving, and most of all, forgiveness. Phyllis was even more beautiful on the inside than she was on the outside. She often said that helping to raise her grandchildren was her greatest joy in life.
She is survived by her son Dr. John T. (Dr. Sally Ann Pope) Burns of Mount Olivet; a sister, Brenda (Elwood) Myers of Mount Olivet; a brother, Darrell (Cathy) Williams of Germantown; three grandchildren, Haley Ann Burns, Joseph B. Larence Burns, and Holly Ann Elizabeth Burns, as well as several nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents and foster parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of fifty-three years, Larence Burns, Jr., and a brother, Delbert Orme of Maysville.
