Obituary for Samantha Kaye Bustos

SAMANTHA KAYE BUSTOS, age 17, of Mt. Olivet, died Monday, January 5, 2015 at the UK Medical Center following a courageous battle with ovarian cancer. Born in Harrison county, August 26, 1997 to Tammy Kaye Fryman Bustos of Mt. Olivet and the late Richard Alan Bustos, Jr., she was a senior at Robertson County School. Besides her father, she was preceded in death by a grandmother, Linda Kaye Fryman; a great grandmother, Loraine Fryman and a grandfather, Allen Bustos.

Besides her mother, she is survived by three brothers, Richard A. Bustos, Jr., Nathaniel (Joetta) Bustos and Bryan Bustos, all of Lexington; a grandmother, Rosalyn K. Hickey Bustos; a great grandfather, John W. Fryman; two nephews, Cason Bustos and Gunnar Bustos; a special cousin, Samantha Fryman; best friends, McKenzie Nolder and Camryn Snapp; several aunts, uncles, cousins and friends and fellow classmates of the Robertson County School Class of 2015.

Samantha loved life and had a contagious smile that could brighten any room which she entered. Her will-power and display of determination were second to none. Even through her physical struggles, she always had a smile on her face and a positive attitude that was admired by all she encountered. Samantha coordinated treatments around school events she did not want to miss and maintained excellent school attendance throughout her battle. She constantly demonstrated her amazing ability to continue and enjoy daily life and positively impact everyone around her.

Samantha had a strong love for the game of volleyball and especially for her teammates. Her positive attitude and hard working nature helped to bring the team close together like a family. She was a great friend and mentor to many both on and off the court, not only at RCS, but also to numerous friends in neighboring schools.

Samantha also had a strong passion for her FFA Chapter. She served Robertson Co. FFA in many capacities and was currently serving as Chapter Vice-President. Samantha competed in numerous FFA contests throughout her high school career and had received the State FFA Degree this past June. She acquired an immense amount of friends through her involvement in activities such as FFA Camp, National Convention, and many others.

Possibly one of Samantha's most notable achievements was her ability to bring together a community that reached far beyond the county lines. Her array of positive characteristics encouraged each person she encountered to become a "SamStrong" supporter. Numerous rallies and events held in her support were heavily attended by many, not only from Robertson County, but from the entire area.

Samantha possessed a love for helping others. She would always find ways to help bring smiles to other people. Samantha attended Piqua Christian Church where she would help with Vacation Bible School each and every summer.

Samantha was thrilled to have one huge wish fulfilled through the Make-A-Wish Foundation last March. Samantha was able to travel to Austin, Texas to the Iheart Music Radio Concert with her mother and two very close family friends, Kathy Jane Malone and Samantha Fryman. As Luke Bryan's number 1 fan, she had the opportunity to have a meet and greet with him. Mr. Bryan spent time with her before the concert and she was able to watch the entire concert from the front row. Luke Bryan made the trip even more special by coming down to the front row and giving her a kiss on the cheek during one of his songs.

Her desire and ability to enjoy life; her display of determination; her positive attitude; and most of all, Her Beautiful Bright Smile, will never be forgotten.
