Obituary for Shirley Louise Whalen (Martin)
Shirley Louise Martin Whalen, age 75, passed away Monday, January 17, 2022 at Harrison Memorial Hospital. She was born in Bourbon County on March 31, 1946 to the late Chester and Margaret Linville Martin. Besides her parents she is preceded in death by her husband of fifty-one years, Orville Whalen Jr.; one brother, Chester Wayne Martin; one sister, Sandra Whitley, one niece, Michelle Whitley; and two brother-in-law, William Whalen, and Dwayne “Doc” Bennett.
Alongside her husband she loved raising, training, and showing Arabian and Rocky Mountain horses. She also loved being outside in her garden, attending her flowers. Shirley’s family was very important to her.
She is survived by one son, Orville Sean (Julia) Whalen; two sisters, Gracie (David) Cole, Carolyn Bennett; two brothers-in-law, Melvin Whalen, Rick Whalen; eight nieces and nephews, Les, April, Jennifer, Rodney, Libby, Laura, Julie, and Cody.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, January 22nd at 2:00 PM at Ware Funeral Home, with visitation beginning at 12:00 PM.
