Obituary for Virginia Hutton Bradley

Virginia Hutton Bradley, age 97, died on February 28, 2021 at St. Joseph Hospital surrounded by her daughter, Dixiana, and son-in-law, Francis Solomon. From her birth on March 8, 1923 until her death on Sunday she nourished her community with love, faith, courage, and wit. She was married to Mark Brayfield Bradley in 1952, a Navy veteran of World War II and a graduate of the University of Kentucky. They lived happily in Cynthiana for 56 years until his death in 2008.
Virginia was a talented elementary education teacher and musician, a 1948 graduate from the University of Kentucky. She taught in the Kentucky public schools (several counties including Jefferson, Bourbon and Harrison) for 33 years, then was a substitute teacher. She played the accordion and the piano.
For a short time, she worked at the Hobson Press in Cynthiana, and as a dental assistant.
Like her mother, the poet Althea Swinford Hutton, Virginia was a dedicated member of the Cynthiana Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution for 74 years. She was an active member of the Cynthiana Presbyterian Church and in keeping with her faith was generous with her talents, especially her culinary skills.
Virginia is survived by many nieces, nephews, and cousins. She loved them all. She treasured her memories of her students and took an interest in their adult lives.
Virginia’s father, Hubert Hutton, a secretary to Chief Justice Fred Vincent, worked for the Health Department when he returned from Washington, D.C. He inspired Virginia with a concern for public health. Out of that concern, in this time of pandemic, Virginia wished to have a private funeral and burial at Battle Grove Cemetery in Cynthiana, Kentucky. Services will be officiated by Rev. Julie Olt. In lieu of flowers she requested that memorial donations be made to the Cynthiana Presbyterian Church.
Friends, family, and the larger community can view the service event on Ware Funeral Home's Facebook page, https://www.facebook.com/events/730986417789609/
